OBJECTIVE
Today we are playing Coach’s Quarterback. In this game, the objective is to work with your team to score as many goals as possible.
INSTRUCTIONS
- I will divide the class into two teams.
- Before the game begins, line up shoulder-to-shoulder on either the baseline or the end line.
- Each team will have a goal to score on.
- I will set the ball in the middle of the field.
- When I say, "GO!" I will call out a certain number of students from each team (ex. "8 blue, 7 green, etc.")
- You must work with your team to send out the exact number of students for each play.
- Teams are awarded one point if they score a goal.
- If a team has an incorrect number of teammates on the field and a point is scored, it does not count.
- You cannot check, shove or push another student.
- If a ball goes out-of-bounds, the play is dead.
- Goalies are not allowed.
TEACHING TIPS
- Approach: Allows students a couple of minutes to strategize before the game begins.
- Approach: Switch the color order each game for fairness.
- Discussion: Ask students to share what hockey skills they saw students use during this game.
BISCUIT IN THE BASKET
EQUIPMENT

OBJECTIVE
Today we are playing Biscuit in the Basket. In this game, the objective is to shoot a goal before your opponent does.
INSTRUCTIONS
- I will divide the class into teams of two.
- I will select the first two teams to start off on the field.
- Before the game begins, the first team will stand at the midline.
- Everyone else will form a line at the baseline or end line with their teammate.
- When I say, "GO!" the second team in line will pass a ball out to the first team at the midline.
- Once the first team receives the ball, the game is open to a two-on-two play.
- The team to score first, stays on the court.
- The team that did not score, will go to the end of the line at the opposing base or end line.
TEACHING TIPS
- Approach: This game is intended to be played on a half-field. If your class size is smaller, play with one whole group.
- Approach: Give students the option to be in a competitive or non-competitive group.
- Discussion: Ask students to share what hockey skills they saw being used during this game.
NET-TO-NET
EQUIPMENT

OBJECTIVE
Today we are playing Net-to-Net. In this game, the objective is to work with your team to score as many goals as possible.
INSTRUCTIONS
- I will divide the class into three teams – using flags to tell who you are.
- Two teams will be allowed on the court at a time.
- Each team will have an assigned goal. Goals will be back-to-back in the middle of the field.
- When I say, "GO!" try and score as many points as possible.
- You cannot push, shove or hit another student’s hockey stick when attacking the ball.
- If a ball is hit out-of-bounds, the teacher will throw it back in.
- After 10 minutes, we will have teams rotate courts.
Game 1: Play as indicated above.
Game 2: Increase the number of balls on field at a time.

- Approach: Divide teams equally based on athletic ability.
- Approach: Before the game starts, clarify which goal each team is shooting at.
- Discussion: Ask students to share what hockey skills they saw students using during this game.
SCRIMMAGE

OBJECTIVE
Today we are playing a full court Scrimmage. In this game, the objective is to work with your team to score as many goals as possible.
INSTRUCTIONS
- I will divide the class into teams of five – using flags to tell who you are.
- Ro Sham Bo to decide which team will start with the ball.
- When I say, "GO!" the team with the ball will start first.
- You cannot check, shove or push another teammate.
- If a ball goes out-of-bounds, the teacher will throw it in.
- Goalies are not allowed.
- Defending students must remain 3 – 5 feet away from their goal.
- If a goal is scored, the opposing team starts with the ball at the midline.
- After 10 minutes, we will rotate teams.
TEACHING TIPS
- Approach: Increase the number of courts based on class size. There should be no more than five students per team.
- Approach: If not all students are participating, enforce a rule stating, teams cannot score unless each teammate has received a pass.
- Discussion: Ask students to share what was easy or hard about getting back on defense during this game.
HALF-COURT HOCKEY

OBJECTIVE
Today we are playing a Half-Court Hockey. In this game, the objective is to work with your team to score as many goals as possible.
INSTRUCTIONS
- I will divide the class into teams of five – using flags to tell who you are.
- Each team must split their teammates into offense and defense. Offense must remain on one half of the field and defense must remain on the other. You cannot cross the midline.
- I will decide which team starts with the ball.
- When I say, "GO!" the team with the ball will start first.
- You cannot check, shove or push another teammate.
- If a ball goes out-of-bounds, the teacher will throw it in.
- Goalies are not allowed and defending students must remain 3 – 5 feet away from their goal.
- If a goal is scored, the opposing team starts with the ball at the midline.
- After 10 minutes, will we rotate teams.

- Approach: Remind students there will be an unequal number of teammates on offense and defense. You must decide which side is more important to have more teammates on.
