STORYLINE
Today we are playing Balloon Volleyball. Your goal is to keep the balloon volleyball from touching the ground.
INSTRUCTIONS
- I will divide you into two teams.
- Before the game begins, spread out on either side of the long jump rope.
- I will decide which team will start with the balloon.
- Each student will get a number for the serving order.
- When I say, “GO!” the team with the balloon will underhand serve first.
- You cannot hit the balloon twice in a row.
- If the balloon lands on the ground on your side, it is the other team’s point and serve.
Game 1: Play as indicated above. Play with one balloon.
Game 2: Add a second, third and forth balloon based on class size.
Game 3: Students must make five passes before hitting the balloon over the other side.
TEACHING TIPS
- Approach: Divide teams equally based on athletic ability.
- Discussion: Ask students to share examples of who they saw doing a good job at encouraging others to hit the balloon over to the other team’s side.
