Heads Up 7 Up

Classroom Games

EQUIPMENT

1 short cone per student

Optional: 3 fuzzy balls (same color)

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Heads Up 7 Up. Your goal is to guess correctly which picker chose you.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • I will select three pickers.
  • Before the game begins, everyone must spread out so that you are not touching one another.
  • When I say, “GO!” everyone must put their heads down, close their eyes and stretch their arms out with their thumbs up.
  • The pickers will have one minute to walk around and select one person each.
  • If a picker has chosen you, he/she will push your thumb down.
  • When all pickers have chosen someone, they will line up at the front of the room.
  • When I say, “Heads Up 7 Up!” stand up if you have been chosen.
  • You will only get one chance to guess who picked you.
  • If you guess correctly, you become a picker.
  • If you guess incorrectly, you do not become a picker.

Game 1: Play as indicated above.
Game 2: Have pickers place fuzzy balls next to people they choose instead of touching their thumbs.

TEACHING TIPS

  • Approach: Increase or decrease the number of pickers based on class size.
  • Discussion: Ask students to share examples of who they saw doing a good job at keeping their eyes closed and being honest.
