Hide the Cap

Classroom Games

EQUIPMENT

4 small objects (about the size of a bottle cap)

1 short cone per student

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Hide the Cap. Your goal is to work together with your team to hide the cap (small object) without the detective figuring out where it is.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • I will select a detective.
  • Before the game begins, everyone will form a circle and the detective will stand in the middle.
  • When I say, “GO!” the detective will count aloud to 20 with his/her eyes closed and spin around while the cap is passed around the circle.
  • The cap is always passed to the student next to you and may not be thrown.
  • Once the detective stops counting, everyone must put both closed fists in front of them.
  • The detective has three chances to guess which fist the cap is in.
  • The student with the cap is the next detective.

Game 1: Play as indicated above. Play with one cap.
Game 2: Add additional caps.
Game 3: Add a Watson who watches the detective’s back and gives him/her clues about who might have the cap.

TEACHING TIPS

  • Discussion: Ask students to share examples of who they saw doing a good job at encouraging others during the game.
